The Zipper necklace came from an invitation made to its author, the designer Filipe Faísca, by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in 2003. On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Department of Jewelery of the Arco school, it challenged its former collaborators to create a piece for the commemorative exhibition. Filipe Faísca already has a long experience in various artistic areas, ranging from fashion to design exprimental, passing through the design and execution of wardrobe for cinema, theater, dance, theme parties, uniforms, haute couture, wedding dresses, personal styling, window design and design accessories. The idea of starting from an object designed to perform a given function and using it effectively to fulfill another function is recurrent in the work of this creator. In its origin was the visit to an exhibition of Marcel Duchamp in New York to the influence that on him exerts the ready made. The inspiration for the zipper, says Filipe Faísca, came from the prototype of a zipper called Looping, from a factory he was working with. Then came a long period of tuning the idea and experiences that aimed to improve the results. The Zipper is made of an ecological grade metal alloy with anti-allergy treatment. There are four colors, corresponding to different finishes: nickel, oxidized nickel, old gold and gold. Throughout these years there were several versions of the clasp in three thicknesses and with slopes. In 2010 was created a partnership with Omoura created the gold version of 18K in two different sizes 70cm and 120cm. This version existed in limited version by order and in the store Yor until the end of the year 2013.
